Last week I mentioned that I was testing Ustream for live church video streaming on the internet, and after today's test, I must confess that I'm loving this system for broadcasting our services live to homebound members of our congregation or those away due to work and business.
Not only can this free service allow ministries to start cheaply to get their church video message to a larger audience, but if you utilise the record option, you can instantly allow anyone who was not able to catch the service live, the ability to watch or listen to the service and sermon immediately after the service ends!
My tests are still in progress, as I'm still not happy with the throughput i'm getting via the internet connection, but that has nothing to do with ustream, rather the ISP or firewall/WiFi system from which I have to work behind.
Things that I still will have to confirm is UStream's ability to handle large number of viewers, and if I will be forced to use the Ustream show page if the service becomes popular since adverts are not currently shown via the embeded player as I mentioned in last week's video post.

Church video streaming with Ustream.TV test
Over the weekend, I carried out some tests of live church video streaming using the Ustream.tv service.
One of the reasons many people might not want to use the free version of Ustream.tv for live streaming of church video on the internet is the fact that the show page carries advertising, but did you know that you have an option of embeding the live player into a page on your own website thus eliminating the majority of these adverts?
The main testing that I was doing in church this weekend centred around the stability of the internet connection we had, so I won't be saying much about the streaming side of things, though it is looking good at the moment.
Remember you don't have to stream church video, you can always opt for audio only if you have internet bandwidth problems or don't have a powerful enough PC or church equipment to handle video.

Sony HVR-Z5 HDV Camera is heavy
Having used Sony PD170s prosumer camcorders as our main church video cameras for over 4 years, we had an urgent need to record ISO in HDV over the weekend, so we hired a Sony HVR-Z5 camera, and the only thing I can say is that this camcorder is Heavy!
Even though I picked the Sony HVR-Z5 up on friday, I didn't have any time to spend with the camera until I actually used it in church on sunday, so I'm not going to give a product review, but I'll just say the camera produces very good church video clips, is well built and a professional built kit that not only looks the part, but actually lives up to all expectations.
We didn't have a HD video mixer to use with the HVR-Z5, so I haven't edited the final product, but I trust that we will get excellent footage.
I wouldn't hesitate to hire this camera for church or personal use again, and if I do I'm sure I wouldn't be disappointed.
